4 Landscaping To-Do's for This Fall
Fall may be in full swing, but here’s some easy tips for keeping that curb appeal you worked so hard for during summer!
Fall is a great time to get some landscaping done and prepare your property for winter. Check out these tips to get some work done while it’s still [somewhat] warm and enjoy our favorite season!
1. Seed Your lawn
Fall is the best time to aerate and seed your lawn, whether you want grass to come back thicker than last year or you’re creating a whole new lawn. You can even buy seed that has mulch and fertilizer built in! Just spread and let nature do the rest – no need for separate fertilizers or straw!
2. Prune and Clean
After all that work on the lawn, be sure to keep falling leaves from building up and smothering your grass!
Shrubs and trees also need some maintenance after summer showers. Trim branches and remove dead foliage. Make sure to leave the roots intact on perennials that will come back next year and keep evergreens trimmed and watered. No one wants to look at dead plants all winter long!
3. Do Some Planting
Speaking of perennials, fall is a great time to plant bulbs, trees and shrubs. Cooler October weather ensures the ground has chilled enough for spring blooming bulbs. These are a great long term in vestment, as they pop up and add color to your home next spring with minimal effort on your part!
4. Bring in Your Tools
Ice, snow and freezing temperatures can be damaging to lawn and garden tools. Make sure to winterize mechanical equipment and store at the appropriate temperature to cut down on those Saturday morning hardware store runs in the spring!
