Need to sell your home, but don't know what to do with your PETS?

Need to sell your home, but don't know what to do with your PETS?

In order to prepare to sell your home, here are five tips that can help guide you and your pet through this big transition.

1. Always talk to your Veterinarian first. Selling a home can not only be stressful on you, it can also be stressful for your pets, especially if your animal is older.

2.Temporarily relocate your pet. Pets do not enjoy strangers walking through "their" home while their owners are away. This can also help keep your house clean and help reduce pet odor. In fact, some clients say it's a turnoff when looking at a potential home they are considering purchasing.

3.Repair any damages to increase the value of your home. Dogs and cats will inevitably destroy something including carpets, furniture, hardwood flooring, walls, doors, turf in your yard and even your fence. Be sure to repair these damages prior to listing your home.

4.Remove pet odors and stains. Pets have accidents. While it's possible to ignore the pet smell over time, new visitors will be sure to notice right away. This is one of the most important tips for selling a home when you have pets.

5.Clean your yard. Pick up any messes in the backyard, replace sod or reseed an area that is one of your pets favorite spots to "play". Make sure you don't neglect the yard as this is just as important to buyers as is the inside of the home.

Why don't home buyers like PETS?

- Nervousness: Pets make buyers uncomfortable.

- Inexperience: Pets are not always predictable.

- Your pets are not their Pets!

Tips on how to REMOVE any signs of pets for professional pictures, open houses, and showings:

-Put away food and water bowls.

-Pick up pet toys and put them away.

-Remove photos of your dog or cat on the refrigerator, walls or table tops.

-Pack up all cages, carriers and cat trees.

- Relocate your pets while your home is on the market.

- Let a friend or relative take care of the pets.

- Board them at a kennel.

- Send them on a vacation.
